Why Choose Custom Design?
What is MOONIK’s Custom Design?
A MOONIK custom design is more than just a dress—it’s a unique expression of your personality, a piece of wearable art that embodies tradition and innovation. Every creation is one-of-a-kind, blending the elegance of traditional kimono with modern couture, designed exclusively for you.
Sueko Oshimoto’s Expertise
With over 40 years of experience in costume design, kimono styling, and fashion, Sueko Oshimoto has worked with Vogue, Hollywood productions, and global fashion editorials. Her expertise allows her to understand client preferences and seamlessly incorporate their inspiration into unique, kimono-inspired couture.
What Sets MOONIK Apart?
Unlike mass-produced designs, each MOONIK custom piece is crafted with exceptional craftsmanship, meticulous tailoring, and ultimate comfort in mind. Every dress is individually designed and handcrafted to ensure a perfect fit, making it as comfortable as it is breathtakingly beautiful. Additionally, we can redesign and transform your own kimono into a stunning, modern piece while preserving its cultural essence.

Step 1
Meet the designer
Your journey begins with a personal consultation with Sueko Oshimoto, where she listens to your vision, preferences, and inspirations. Whether virtual or in-person, this step is essential in crafting a design that reflects your personality and style.
Sueko will present sample kimono fabrics and designs, allowing you to explore different styles and materials. You can choose from these, have us source a unique kimono, or bring your own for a custom redesign.
We will also discuss your budget, and a 50% deposit is required before designing begins. The remaining balance is due before delivery.
This process ensures your custom creation is a perfect blend of tradition and modern elegance.

step 2
Sketch & Fabric Selection
Once your vision is clear, Sueko Oshimoto creates a detailed sketch of your custom kimono-inspired piece, incorporating your preferences and unique design elements. This sketch serves as the foundation of your one-of-a-kind wearable art piece.
Once the sketch is complete, we will scan and send it to you via email or text for review. If you have any modifications or adjustments, this is the perfect time to share your feedback. We want to ensure that every detail aligns with your expectations before moving forward.
After receiving your final approval, we proceed to the next stage—handcrafting your custom creation with the finest fabrics, luxurious embellishments, and meticulous craftsmanship.

step 3
Craftsmanship & Production
Once the design is finalized and approved, our expert artisans begin the meticulous handcrafting process, ensuring precision and honoring traditional craftsmanship. Every stitch, fold, and detail is carefully executed to bring your custom kimono-inspired piece to life.
The production timeline varies depending on the complexity of the design, ranging from two weeks to three months. If you desire an extra touch of luxury, we offer Swarovski crystal embellishments as an optional upgrade, adding a radiant sparkle to your one-of-a-kind creation.
Throughout this process, we remain in close communication, keeping you updated on the progress of your wearable art piece.

step 4
Final Fitting & Delivery
When your custom piece is complete, we conduct a final fitting session to ensure a perfect fit and make any necessary adjustments. This can be done either at our studio or at your location, depending on your preference. This step is crucial in guaranteeing that your bespoke kimono-inspired piece drapes flawlessly and feels as luxurious as it looks.
Once everything is finalized, your order will be carefully packaged and shipped for free within the U.S.. For international clients, we offer worldwide shipping options upon request. Your one-of-a-kind wearable art piece is now ready to be cherished and worn with confidence.
